LeBron James, Stephen Curry lead starters for 2018 NBA All-Star Game, will be first-ever captains
(Thu, 18 Jan 2018 23:23:51 GMT)
For the first time ever, this year’s NBA All-Star Game will feature two captains picking their respective teams from a pool of starters selected by fans, fellow players and media members. After all the votes were tallied, the league announced the captains on TNT on Thursday night, and the guys who’ll be choosing sides … well, you’ve seen a lot of them the last few summers. LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the top overall vote-getter in fan balloting, and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, who led all Western Conference players in voting, will act as the captains in the 2018 NBA All-Star Game next month in Los Angeles.

Rajon Rondo rips idea of Isaiah Thomas tribute video: “What has he done?”
(Wed, 17 Jan 2018 23:46:16 GMT)
There is not going to be a tribute video for Isaiah Thomas shown the next time the Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Boston Garden at the request of Thomas himself. Never has there been this much controversy around a tribute video: Thomas didn’t want it the first time the Cavaliers came to Boston because he would not be playing, so the Celtics said they would run it the next time Cleveland came to town, which turns out to be the night of Paul Pierce getting his jersey retired, and he didn’t want to share the spotlight.

Is LeBron James Among the Cleveland Cavaliers’ ‘Discontented’ Star Players?
(Wed, 17 Jan 2018 12:00:57 GMT)
The Cleveland Cavaliers are mired in a losing run, and the cracks may just be starting to show. A report from Dave McMenamin of ESPN, published on Tuesday evening, sheds new light on what is turning into a troubled season for the Cavaliers, whose loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday night was the eighth in their last ten games. McMenamin spoke to “multiple”, “prominent” Cavaliers players who he says aired their doubts about whether the team’s problems are solvable.

LeBron James determined to work through 'very challenging' Cavaliers season
(Thu, 18 Jan 2018 22:34:31 GMT)
Very little has gone right for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the last month, and LeBron James fully acknowledged just how tough this season has been after practice on Wednesday. Cleveland knew the season was going to be rough in the beginning as they were not expecting to have guard Isaiah Thomas playing until January. Thomas is back in the line-up but still the team is mired in problems.

Curry embraces All-Star draft: 'Who knows how it'll play out'
(Fri, 19 Jan 2018 05:04:13 GMT)
Now that he has been voted in as an All-Star captain, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry won't rule out making some intrepid choices when it comes time to select his teammates. "I don't know who LeBron will take with the first pick," Curry told reporters in Chicago on Thursday. Curry and James were named captains by virtue of receiving the most total votes in their respective conferences.

2018 NBA All-Star Game: LeBron James, Steph Curry named captains; Wall and Beal miss cut for starters
(Thu, 18 Jan 2018 21:50:56 GMT)
The NBA announced the starters for next month's 2018 All-Star Game and once again LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers was the top vote-getter.Stephen Curry of the Warriors was second in votes, meaning he and James will serve as captains and pick teams

Cavs salvage win over Magic after blowing 23-point lead
(Fri, 19 Jan 2018 02:52:44 GMT)
Isaiah Thomas scored 21 points and hit the go-ahead free throws with 11 seconds remaining as the Cleveland Cavaliers blew a 23-point lead and held off the Orlando Magic for a 104-103 win Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Thomas shot 6 of 15 but also made six of seven free throws. Thomas gave the Cavaliers a seemingly safe 98-91 lead by hitting a 3-pointer with 5:31 remaining, but Orlando stormed back and took a 103-102 lead with 31 seconds left after Shelvin Mack rebounded a missed 3-pointer by Aaron Gordon and converted a short jumper in the lane.

NBA Power Rankings: Minnesota into top 3, Miami into top 10
(Wed, 17 Jan 2018 22:25:30 GMT)
It should be a shock to nobody that Golden State and Boston remain locked in the top two slots, but after that things get interesting. Minnesota is finally defending and is up to No. 3, Miami has pushed its way into the top 10, and a disinterested Cavaliers team (which has some real flaws, too) has fallen to 12th. The Warriors have now won 13 in a row with Stephen Curry in the lineup, and 13 in a row on the road.

The 2008 Celtics, as petty as ever: 'What has [Isaiah Thomas] done?'
(Wed, 17 Jan 2018 18:35:47 GMT)
Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce are all wondering what’s so special about Isaiah Thomas. The 2008 Boston Celtics are a prideful and petty bunch, and they earned that right, beating LeBron James and Kobe Bryant to deliver an 17th title and restore glory to a dormant once-great franchise. Paul Pierce, now an ESPN analyst, still belittles James at every opportunity, probably one reason why No. 34 will be retired to the TD Garden rafters when the Celtics host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Feb. 11.

Important gambling PSA: Stop betting on the Cleveland Cavaliers!
(Thu, 18 Jan 2018 16:06:53 GMT)
Despite what's been hailed as a disastrous first half of the NBA calendar for the Cleveland Cavaliers, they still sit third in the Eastern Conference standings with a 26-17 record. The real disaster has been felt by those betting on LeBron's boys. According to The Action Network, the Cavs have performed "historically poor" against the spread this year with a 12-30-1 record thus far.

Five fun facts as LeBron James chases 30K career points
(Wed, 17 Jan 2018 14:37:25 GMT)
LeBron James enters the Cleveland Cavaliers' Thursday game against the Orlando Magic with 29,959 career points, just 41 shy of 30,000. Should he score those 41 points during this week's game, James, 33, would become the youngest player to reach that milestone mark. While it's no shock that James is one of the greatest basketball players in the NBA, there are other titbits of information that may be surprising.

Magic is missing as Cavaliers host Orlando
(Thu, 18 Jan 2018 05:08:34 GMT)
The Orlando Magic are the last team the Cleveland Cavaliers beat. The Magic have lost 27 of its last 32 games and snapped a seven-game losing streak Tuesday by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Cavs, meanwhile, are a mess, considering their DNA and string of three consecutive Finals trips.

LeBron: This season harder than the rest
(Wed, 17 Jan 2018 22:15:12 GMT)
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- With his team mired in a four-game losing streak that has extended the Cleveland Cavaliers' rut to a 3-9 record since Dec. 19, LeBron James acknowledged his 15th season in the NBA has been harder than the ones that preceded it. "It's been very challenging," James said after practice Wednesday. "Just from the simple fact of how many guys have been in and out. This is a difficult year for our team. Seems like I say that every year, but this one has been even more challenging. "With everybody who has been out and coming back in, and the rotations, and things of that nature, it's been very challenging on our team. But we have to figure it out. At the end of the day, we have

Chillin': LeBron, Cavs trying to thaw from mid-season freeze
(Wed, 17 Jan 2018 21:56:36 GMT)
With sweat streaking down his face and into his bushy beard, LeBron James was not in a playful mood following practice. With Cleveland in the midst of its annual January deep freeze, a troubling stretch where losing multiplies quickly into rumors, drama and even more distractions for the NBA's most scrutinized superstar and his teammates, the Cavaliers are being questioned again. While they played well for more than three quarters in a loss - their ninth in 12 games - on Monday night to the defending champion Golden State Warriors, James found little to be encouraged about.

(Fri, 19 Jan 2018 01:33:18 GMT)
LeBron James and Stephen Curry led the voting for NBA All-Star Game starters announced on Thursday and will serve as team captains in the league's new-look mid-season exhibition on February 18. Golden State Warriors star Curry led the balloting in the Western Conference with 2,379,494 fan votes.

Magic's Afflalo handed two-game ban for fighting
(Thu, 18 Jan 2018 23:35:52 GMT)
Orlando Magic guard Arron Afflalo has been suspended for two games without pay for throwing a punch at the Minnesota Timberwolves' Nemanja Bjelica, the NBA announced on Thursday. Afflalo and Bjelica were both ejected with 7:28 remaining in the second
